The Dassault Falcon 7X is a popular long-haul charter solution that can fly non-stop from Berlin to Los Angeles and New York to Dubai.

About this aircraft

  • Launched in 2001 and entering service in 2007, the Dassault Falcon 7X is a distinctive long-range, large-cabin trijet.
  • The aircraft can accommodate 12-16 passengers, but is normally configured to seat 14.
  • The Falcon 7X has an impressive range and can fly non-stop from Paris to Los Angeles and even New York to Santiago in Chile.
  • Its large baggage hold has space for around 14 suitcases.
  • About 300 Falcon 7Xs were delivered by 2022.

The Dassault Falcon 7X has an innovative wing design and upgraded engines that minimise noise and vibrations in the cabin. As well as its imposing speed and ability to take off from shorter runways, the aircraft’s signature interior is one of the most comfortable in its class.

Interior design

Offering a substantially longer cabin than the Falcon 900EX, the 7X comfortably seats 12 to 16 passengers in three zones.

Its various configurations usually feature one or two divans at the rear, a four-seat conference or dining area in the middle, and a club formation at the front. Some have two club zones and two divans in the rear. The galley at the front is large enough to prepare hot and cold refreshments, while an enclosed lavatory at the rear provides access to the baggage hold.

Plenty of natural light enters each living area through 28 large windows spanning the cabin’s length. At night, seats can be converted into lie-flat beds for up to six people.

Below are two typical configurations found on a Dassault Falcon 7X.

Interesting facts to learn before you fly

  • Dassault introduced new cabinets on the Falcon 7X in May 2009. The award-winning design was developed in partnership with BMW Group DesignworksUSA to give the aircraft’s interior a more spacious look.
  • The cabin is extremely quiet thanks to special engine mounts and cabin isolators, with a noise level below 50 dBA.
  • A small enclosed lavatory at the front of the aircraft ensures complete separation between passengers and crew.

Technological features

The 7X is one of the most efficient aircraft in its class, thanks in large part to its three Pratt & Whitney Canada PW307A engines. These are flat-rated to 6,402 lbs of thrust, allowing the aircraft to operate from more demanding airfields in hot and high terrains, and fitted with full authority digital engine control (FADEC).

Inside, the 7X features the same Honeywell EASy flight deck as the 900 EX EASy, 900DX and 2000EX EASy. Based on the Honeywell Primus II Epic avionics suite, it has four 13x10in flat-panel, hi-res, active-matrix LCDs; a dual, fail-operational, automatic flight control system; a dual flight management/performance management system; dual micro inertial reference systems; dual air-data sensors; a dual 24-channel GPS system; a Primus 880 turbulence detection weather radar; an enhanced ground proximity warning system (EGPWS); a radio altimeter; and an integrated digital radio system.

History

Launched in 2001 and showcased in 2005, the Falcon 7X was a revolutionary aircraft designed to offer exceptional long-range performance and comfort. It received FAA and EASA certification in April 2007 before entering service that June.

In 2011, Dassault partnered with BMW Group Designworks to offer optional interiors for the 7X. The award-winning designs feature more curves, greater contrast between the sidewalls and headliners, and different lighting throughout the cabin to create a more open and spacious feel.

Several improvements for new and used 7Xs were rolled out in 2014, including a system that halves the time it takes to refuel from 50 to 100 percent capacity and increases maintenance intervals.

Around 300 Falcon 7Xs were delivered by 2022. While the newer 8X offers improved range and a larger cabin, the 7X remains a popular aircraft to buy and charter.

Manufacturer

Dassault Aviation’s history dates back to the dawn of aviation. Marcel Bloch (later known as Marcel Dassault) founded the company following a childhood fascination with aesthetics and innovation and it went on to become one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers.

Following the oil shock of 1973-74 and the Iranian crisis in 1979, the global economy felt the impact of rising raw material prices. Dassault bolstered its fundamentals by developing exports of civil and military aircraft against a backdrop of increasingly fierce international competition. Today, the brand holds a special place in the industry as the only global aerospace company still owned by its founding family.

Cost

At the time of its release, the Falcon 7X cost $35 million (USD), a staggering $10 million less than any of its competitors. Nowadays, a new model will set you back about $53 million, while a pre-owned one costs $19-24 million.
